삼일제약(000520)이 미국 안과전문 제약사 ‘KC 파마슈티컬즈(KC Pharmaceuticals)’와 북미 시장 진출 협력을 위한 업무협약(MOU)를 체결했다고 22일 밝혔다.

‘KC 파마슈티컬즈’는 1987년에 설립되었으며, 미국 캘리포니아주 포모나(Pomona)에 본사를 두고 있는 제약사다. 주로 점안제와 콘택트렌즈 관리 용품 제조에 특화되어 있으며, 북미 최대의 PB(자체 브랜드) 점안제 제조사다. 주요 고객사로는 월마트(Walmart), CVS, 월그린(Walgreens), 타겟(Target), 크로거(Kroger) 등 미국 내 상위 대형 마트와 약국 체인에 안구건조증 치료제, 인공눈물, 충혈 완화제, 알레르기 안약 등을 공급하고 있다.

삼일제약은 이번 업무협약을 통해 자사의 ‘아이투오미니’ 점안액의 북미 유통을 우선 협의하기로 했다. 이번 협약을 통해 양사는 북미 시장에서의 사업기회 확대 가능성을 공동 검토하고, 향후 제품 공급, 현지 사업화, 유통 및 사업 개발 등 다양한 분야에서 협력 가능성을 논의할 예정이다. 이를 위해 회사측은 미국 FDA의 cGMP 인증에 속도를 내고 있다고 밝혔다.

특히 양사는 북미 지역 내 네트워크 및 사업 인프라를 기반으로 시장 확대 전략, 사업 개발 협력, 현지 사업화 기반 구축 등 중장기적 협력 방향에 대해 상호 협력할 계획이다.

Samil Pharmaceutical announced on May 22 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with U.S.-based ophthalmic specialty company KC Pharmaceuticals to cooperate on expansion into the North American market.

Founded in 1987 and headquartered in Pomona, California, KC Pharmaceuticals specializes in ophthalmic solutions and contact lens care products. The company is recognized as one of the largest private-label ophthalmic product manufacturers in North America.

Its major customers include leading U.S. retailers and pharmacy chains such as , , , , and . KC Pharmaceuticals supplies a variety of ophthalmic products including dry eye treatments, artificial tears, redness relievers, and allergy eye drops.

Under the agreement, Samil Pharmaceutical and KC Pharmaceuticals will first discuss the distribution of Samil’s “Eyetoo Mini” eye drops in the North American market.

The two companies also plan to jointly explore broader business opportunities in North America, including product supply, local commercialization, distribution partnerships, and business development initiatives.

Samil Pharmaceutical said it is accelerating efforts to obtain U.S. FDA current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) certification to support its North American expansion strategy.

In particular, both companies agreed to cooperate on long-term strategic initiatives leveraging their regional networks and business infrastructure in North America. The collaboration is expected to include market expansion strategies, business development cooperation, and the establishment of local commercialization platforms.
